The Heriz weaving district in NW Persia (Azerbaijan province) has been intensely active from the 18th century onward, with literally millions of mostly medallion, mostly room size carpets in a primarily red/ ecru and navy palette. The coral red ground displays numerous small geometric leaves radiating from an ivory hexagonal subfield with a ragged and barbed 12 point lozenge medallion and conforming red sub-medallion. Small green corner projections. Blue-black main border with diamond centred reversing turtle palmettes. Cotton foundation, medium weave. Good condition.
