A generic term referring to any carpets made within the confines of the Middle Kingdom including: Ningxia (north central China), Peking (woven in the capital city), Tientsin (Tianjian, primarily Art Deco and from NE China, Xinjiang Province, (western China), Tibetan and Mongolian, from the 16th century onward, in sizes ranging from small ruglets to enormous palace – sized creations, and generally with wool pile.
