The Afshar tribes probably have the largest collective design repertoire of any nomadic or village group. In this attractive example, the pattern is reminiscent of Mahal carpets, with an ecru field supporting a large textile repeat of acanthus edged polylobate open elements. Small escutcheon palmettes hold the pattern together. Slate and rust details. Light blue border with forked acanthus arabesques and escutcheon palmettes. Medium weave. Good condition.
