A technique rather than a specific type, in which warps are wrapped by coloured wefts to create a pattern. Caucasian, Turkish, Persian and other types. Produces a flat surface, pileless rug which may be turned over for extended use. Lends itself to geometric patterns. Caucasian sumaks are the most common, in scatter and larger sizes. Also used on bagfaces and as a partial design element on pile rugs.
