This finely woven NW Persian ruglet depicts the seated Virgin, Child and St. John, against a lightly shaded powder blue plain background, the whole probably derived from Western source, either Italian Renaissance or 19th century Pre-Raphaelite painting. The protagonists look out at the viewer and are decorously draped with red, blue-grey buff-tan and cream accents. St. John the Baptist holds his small stick cross. Clearly woven for the European/American market. A wall-hanging rug in good condition.
