Isfahan, in central Persia, was once the capital, and the art and craft was revived after a long hiatus in the Interwar period.. Cream ground/red border combinations have always been popular among Isfahan weavers and this small carpet is a finely-woven example of this color way with a small, sharply pointed octofoil medallion anchoring a vinery, saz leaf and palmette bilateral Pattern. Doubled palmettes at the midpoints of the side border, single elsewhere. Velvety surface, fine wool pile. Good condition.
