Qum and Kashan are both in central Persia and this modern, well-woven Qum clearly takes after its Kashan predecessor, with a straw field under elaborate spandrels. Paired peacocks decorate the spandrels and a veritable menagerie including stags, pheasants, doves, lovebirds, foxes, falcons, fauns and rabbits stand, couch and run about in the jungle of the field. A vase forms the base of the iris-edged medallion. The rust-red main border shows more animals and irises. A pale blue appears as an accent tone. This attractive carpet stands in the long tradition of Persian animal and foliage rugs. Fine condition.
