Of superior “Serapi” weave quality, this NW Persian village rug shows a somewhat informal version of the universally popular Herati design closely covering the dark indigo ground. Although the Herati pattern is not rare to Heriz-area weaving, this is a particularly well-balanced and executed example. The soft rust-red border features Heriz-style reversing turtle motives along with rosettes and bent “fish” leaves. Natural dye palette. Good condition.
