This archetypal, magnificently characteristic NW Persian city carpet comes from the best period of Tabriz weaving It shows a "bookcover" medallion design of a red field with a sinuously branching tree at each end, and a central 16 lobe navy roundel with a eight-lobe ivory sub-medallion. Partially straight, partially scalloped navy corners with volute arabesques, some with buds resembling animal heads. Cream-straw border of paired leaves and reversing open turtle palmettes. Fine weave, crisp colors overall. Cotton foundation. Good condition.
